fall 2004
so if you haven't seen the trixie pages check
them out because that project is  what i spent
much of this semester creating.  most of my
other hours were spent in the large-metals
shop heating, welding, melting, casting and
more fun stuff
these are images of me working in metals,
heating/cutting steel rod with an acetylene torch
to bend/form the letters of my sentence, the final
piece is on the left.  to see more images of my
fabrication of this piece

it seems that i switch back
and forth between metal work
and sewing.
these are two stuffed animals
inspired by a story our sculpture class read
from the new yorker
the above images show me beginning to prepare
the sandpit for an aluminum pour

for profession practices we had to make a
presentation portfolio, that could be used on a
job interview or something like that...i welded a
box out of steel sheet....i made the hinges and
closures out of coiled steel wire...using the
cutting torch for measurements that needed to be
exact was a learning experience...i also had some
trouble grinding down all of the welds...mostly
because i didn't have equipment that could get
into the tight corners...thanks to shea for lots of
technical advice and letting me use his air
powered die grinder!
above left to right: box closed, me hammering heated sheet
metal (because i wanted the sides to be made out of one
piece so i had to hammer it into 90º angles), detail of
copper coil around steel wire pin closure, removing pin
closures to "unlock" box middle left to right: one side of box
open revealing business card on door and resume
information, both doors open  bottom left to right: more
hammering, close-up of corner and coiled hinges
